Questions, answered.
Everything you need to know about using TimeToTest, whether you’re sending a notification or you’ve received one.
Is it really anonymous?
Yes. Recipients only see that a notification was sent via TimeToTest. Your name, your number, and your identity are never shared with them.
Will the recipient see my phone number?
No. Messages are sent from a TimeToTest system number, not from your phone. There is no way for the recipient to see or reply to your number.
What does the message actually say?
It is a single, fixed message that recommends testing and links to NHS sexual health services. It reads: “Someone you have been intimate with has tested positive for an STI. Please get tested using your local sexual health service. Sent anonymously via TimeToTest.”
Is it free?
Completely. TimeToTest is free to download and free to use. If it helped you, you can choose to support us on Ko-fi, but you never have to.
Who is TimeToTest for?
Adults aged 18 and over, on both sides of every message. It is intended for genuine partner notification, not for any other purpose.
I received a message. What should I do?
Please don’t panic. It means someone wants you to look after your health by getting tested. Visit your local sexual health service or use the NHS clinic finder linked in the message. You do not need to reply.
How do I stop receiving messages?
Reply STOP, END, CANCEL, QUIT, or UNSUBSCRIBE to any TimeToTest SMS, or use the opt-out page. Opting out is immediate and permanent.
Do you store my data?
Phone numbers are not retained after a message is dispatched, and there are no accounts to create. We hold as little as possible.
Is this medical advice?
No. TimeToTest is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice. Always consult a healthcare professional for diagnosis and treatment.
